Wahoo, I'm finally back from my trip to Japan! Well, I came back on the 26th XD And now I'm back home in California... I miss it already. I had a lot of fun... if you're bored by me explaining what I did on my trip, don't read on XD
If I haven't told you, I went with a group called People to People. It's a program meant to show kids different cultures and let them experience new things, bringing peace to different countries. I went with two California groups and a Massachusetts group. I made a lot of friends from Massachusetts. We went to a lot of different places in Japan. My favorite part of the trip was the anime museum. We made our own one second animations with a real anime artist! He showed us some examples, and we started on our own. People made many animations, from birds flying to stick figures playing baseball. Mine was an anime girl throwing her hand in the air happily. XD It's kind of boring, haha. It was fun to make, though.
We did a homestay, not overnight, but for a few hours. A couple other boys from my group and I were paired up with a family living in Kaga City. It's a really cool town. We ate lunch together (rice, tomatoes, and chicken, yummy!), went to a temple, and played with a six year old boy named Rikito. He was really cute.
It was a cool experience to get to be with a real Japanese family for a day.
Another cool part of the trip was a hike on Mount Fuji. We didn't hike to the top (that would take many hours!) but we hiked for two hours to a big valley on the mountain. It was a really cool sight and fun to be on.
We also went to Hiroshima, where we learned about the atomic bomb. We went to a really sad museum about the bomb. We saw a short documentary about it that nearly made me and others cry. We also saw a little anime about Sadako and her paper cranes, and left our own paper cranes at her monument. Her monument is really beautiful. It shows her holding a large, golden crane. People had left many strings and artwork with paper cranes around the monument. You can read more about Sadako in my journal here: aquadewrose.deviantart.com/jou…
I enjoyed it, if you have any questions about my experience feel free to ask. I'm having a good summer so far, high school's starting soon! Ack, I'm nervous. But I'm excited too, like always
See you later!
